Cuba: Challenges and Changes

Nineteen people enjoyed good company, good food and good discussion about the trip of NLG member Dianne Post and another friend to Cuba in March.  While still under government edicts, changes are happening.  The country is admitting that they do have racism and sexism and speaking about how to eradicate that.  LGBT groups are also speaking up though some disagreed on how well it was accepted.  After slides and discussion, we watched an 8 minute video about the literacy campaign in 1961 that had over 700,000 urban mostly kids travel to the country and teach millions how to read and write.  Cuba reduced its illiteracy rate from near 40% to practically zero today.
